Chinese kids are taller than ever but families are reaching higher

HONG KONG — Li Tai’s son was just 5 years old, but the father worried the boy was falling behind.

At the time, official reference information showed he was shorter than 97% of Chinese boys his age. Li, who himself is below average in height, worried his son could be vulnerable to bullying and might later have trouble finding a wife.
