2025 Food Lion CIAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournament Semifinals Recap

Baltimore, MD. – Day four of the 2025 Food Lion CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament helped saw the semifinals matches on both sides, as we now know who will be facing off for a chance to take home the title. Virginia State’s men’s and women’s teams both advanced on to the finals, while TBD. 

(Women’s) Virginia State def. Bowie State, 63-59
Virginia State overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to take down Bowie State and clinch a spot in the women’s finals, winning 63-59. The Trojans had four players with double-digit points, led by Skylar White who netted 17 off the bench. On the other side, Destiny Ryles put forth a huge scoring effort for the Bulldogs with 29 points, including 10 made free throws. Virginia State will now take on Fayetteville State in tomorrow’s championship at 1:00 P.M.

(Men’s) Virginia State def. Lincoln (PA), 66-57
The Virginia State Trojans move on to the Championship Game after a 66-57 victory over Lincoln University (PA). The Trojans will face Bluefield State (2N) tomorrow evening at 4:00 P.M. The Lions were led by Bakir Cleveland with 17 points and Peter Sorber adding 16 points on the night. Jacob Cooper led the Trojans with 17 points with Clint Wright Jr and Jared White coming away with 14 each. 

(Women’s) Fayetteville State def. Virginia Union, 62-53
Fayetteville State used a 35-22 halftime lead to propel themselves back into the championship finals. The Broncos were led in scoring by Talia Trotter with 15 points followed by Nyah Williams with 11 points. For Virginia Union, three Panthers finished the game with double digits, Neveah Reaves with 16, Rori Cox with 12 and Tatiana Jones with 11.

(Men’s) Bluefield State def. Fayetteville State, 71-65

Bluefield State and Fayetteville State battled in a hard-fought matchup in the tournament semifinals, with the Big Blue securing a 71-65 victory to advance to the championship game. Shainen Carter led the way for Bluefield State, finishing with 17 points, while Myles Pierre paced Fayetteville State with 17 points. With the win, the Big Blue advance to the championship game, where they will compete for the tournament title against Virginia State tomorrow at 4:00 P.M.
