Back in 2013, Éleos Ministry founders Cam and Joy Hill moved to Nicholtown to begin a neighborhood outreach. In 2016, they hosted their first open gym basketball night.Basketball eventually became the catalyst to start Éleos Ministry and its multitude of free programs that are offered to students who qualify from the Nicholtown community. Those students have to currently attend Beck Academy, Northwood Middle School, J.L. Mann High School and Wade Hampton High School.According to Éleos Program Director Grace Bridger, Nicholtown has been a historically under resourced area, and now it serves as an impact after school and summer program to simply give back, restore, and refine the next generation.“I’ve been able to see students grow not only in their confidence but also in their relationships,” Bridger said. “All of the programs we offer are completely free because we never want finances to be a barrier for a student to join our programs, and we also want to offer our students the best of the best. We always say what we do is much more than these programs. We want to come alongside students and champion them to be empowered for the next generation.”According to Éleos, the organization provided more than 100 students in the Nicholtown community with 2,448 mentor hours, 8,250 shared meals, 67 hours of after school tutoring, 102 hours of organized basketball, 67 hours of creative arts, 78 hours of Bible study, 82 field trips taken and 1,350 hours of leadership development all free of charge to the kids and their families. In order to keep these essential program initiatives free, Éleos has launched its 100 Buckets Campaign. In a message from the organization about this fundraising campaign, it reads:”Each player will shoot 100 free throws, aka buckets, and ask for $1 or more pledges for every bucket sunk. You can do this as a team at your local gym or players can do from anywhere by the March 31st deadline. All you need is a ball and a hoop! Buckets and donations are all recorded on your personalized PledgeIt platform online so there is no extra math or chasing down donations – it’s all done for you with a personalized landing page. All the money raised goes to support Éleos programs elevating and equipping youth leaders in the Nicholtown community. Our 2025 goal is $35,000.”More information on Éleos as a whole and how to contact them with more questions related to the fundraising campaign can be found here.
