ISU Student-Athletes To Hold CyCans Food Drive – Iowa State University Athletics

The Iowa State University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is excited to announce the 2025 CyCans food drive, a community-focused initiative aimed at providing food for families in need throughout Story County. The event will take place on Sunday, March 2nd, and Tuesday, March 4th, in Hilton Coliseum before the Iowa State Women’s and Men’s basketball games.

CyCans offers Cyclone fans an opportunity to contribute nonperishable food items or monetary donations, helping support the United Way of Story County food pantries. Volunteers from ISU’s student-athletes will be collecting donations at the entrances of Hilton Coliseum.

Key Event Details:

  • What: Nonperishable food items or monetary donations
  • When: Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, 1:30 – 3:30 PM (Women’s Basketball vs. K-State) & Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, 6:30 – 8:30 PM (Men’s Basketball vs. BYU)
  • Where: Hilton Coliseum Entrances (North, Upper West, South, and Southeast)
  • Why: To help feed families in need in Story County

Donations made to the CyCans food drive will directly impact families across Story County, with each $5 donation providing three meals for families. Last year, CyCans collected 1,148 pounds of food and raised $3,193.25, helping provide a total of 13,729 meals. The goal this year is to exceed that number and further support the local community.

“CyCans gives Cyclone fans the chance to support families in need while cheering on our men’s and women’s basketball teams. It’s a great way to make an impact while enjoying the game,” said Tyler Claiborne, a member of SAAC and one of the event organizers.

The event is supported by ISU Athletics, EMC Insurance, United Way, and local volunteers, and will be promoted across multiple social media platforms, including Instagram, X, and LinkedIn.
