The 44th annual Texas Healey Roundup will roll into La Grange April 4-6.
Organizers expect several dozen vintage Austin Healey automobiles to be on display around the courthouse square that Saturday, April 5.
La Grange City Council approved a street closure request for the event at their meeting Monday night, Feb. 14. Mike Johnson of the Gulf Coast Healey Club gave a presentation at the meeting. Johnson said his club, which is based in Houston, joins up with two other Texas-based Austin Healey clubs to hold the Roundup at a different city in Texas each year. Last year’s Roundup was in Mineral Wells.
Austin Healey automobiles were manufactured in Great Britain from 1952 to 1972. They’ve become quite collectible in America ever since production ended. Johnson said the Healey clubs in America started in the 1970s.
Club members and their automobiles will arrive in La Grange Friday afternoon, April 4. The cars will be on public display on the north and west sides of the Courthouse Square on Saturday, April 5, from around 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Starting at 1:30 p.m., the club members begin departing for a cruise on local backroads. They’ll meet for a private dinner at Frisch Auf Country Club Saturday night before departing Sunday morning.
Johnson asked the City to close the inner parking areas around the Square along Colorado St. and Main St. on Saturday, April 5. Council unanimously approved the request.
Councilwoman Violet Zbranek asked City staff to notify businesses around the Square and the La Grange Farmers Market about the car show and associated street closure.
