PARKERSBURG — An event planned for April that would have featured Parkersburg native and Tennessee Lady Volunteer Basketball Coach Kim Stephens Caldwell has to be canceled, organizers said.

The Wood County Recreation Commission was planning to hold the Legacy Fundraising Event Dinner on April 19 at the Blennerhassett Hotel in downtown Parkersburg as a way to fundraise and help support a variety of programs in the area, including youth sports, events and local festivals.

Wood County Recreation began last week seeking sponsors and other support to help with the event. Sponsorship tickets were originally going to go on sale after Saturday.

However on Thursday, Wood County Recreation Director Bill Vincent announced the event would have to be canceled as Caldwell will be unable to attend.

“We are so very sorry to announce that we will be canceling our 2025 Legacy Fundraising Event,” Vincent said. “We sincerely appreciated the possible opportunity with Coach Kim Stephens Caldwell and would like to congratulate her on the birth of her new son as well as her fantastic recent achievements.

“We understand the time constraints as a coach of this particular level accompanied with new motherhood; so due to unfortunate circumstances we will be unable to host the event this year.”

Vincent is hopeful they will be able to schedule another event at some point.

“We have high hopes of attaining a date for another event in the future,” he said. “We truly value all participants willing to sponsor and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
