Favorite rides to be on display during 40th annual Make A Wish Car Show

The Panhandle Council of Car Clubs’ 40th annual Make A Wish Car Show is set to be held March 8 and 9 at the Amarillo Civic Center.

The group expects more than 300 show cars at the event, including street rods, classics, sports cars, muscle cars, motorcycles and tractors. Many one-of-a-kind cars will be on display.

Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children and children younger than 7 get in free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Nadia German, Ph.D., director of the Medicinal Chemistry program at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, has been named to the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) 2025 class of Senior Members. She will be inducted June 23-26 during the Senior Member Induction Ceremony at NAI’s 14th Annual Conference in Atlanta. Downtown Women’s Center (DWC), who serves homeless women in recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions through its four shelters, celebrated the graduation of five women from its recovery program on Feb. 23 at the Central Church of Christ-Chapel in Amarillo. More than 250 women have successfully completed the DWC Recovery Program since 2007 when they started having graduation ceremonies. Necklaces designed by Barnes Jewelry are given to each graduate to this day, provided by Don and Brenda Adams.

March is Red Cross Month, and the American Red Cross Panhandle Plains Chapter is kicking off its annual celebration to honor West Texans who deliver support when help can’t wait during emergencies. High Plains Food Bank joins the Feeding Texas network of 20 food banks in urging state legislators to pass HB 2946, the “Food is Medicine” bill – filed last week by Texas Rep. Tom Oliverson. The bill would allow for Medicaid reimbursements to cover nutrition support services. Food insecurity is a key driver of health, and as a result, a driver of higher health care costs.
