There are many ways for you to help spread awareness and support Kids’ Food Basket’s mission to provide healthy meals for children.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — March is National Nutrition Month and Kids’ Food Basket (KFB) is encouraging you to “Go Orange” to help raise awareness about childhood hunger.
The campaign is a month-long effort to raise awareness and challenge the community to get involved in helping secure nutritious meals for children. Go Orange with Kids’ Food Basket is fighting childhood hunger through donations, wish list drives, volunteering and much more.
Local businesses are helping with the effort by decorating snack bags, advocating online and creating fundraisers.
An easy way for you to get involved is by rounding up your bill or purchasing a “Sack Supper” icon for $2 at participating businesses or by scheduling a volunteer shift at one of KFB’s three locations in Kent, Muskegon or Ottawa counties.
You can also help Kids’ Food Basket by donating, purchasing wish list items, participating in community events, competing in a Go Orange challenge and more. Find out how to help at KidsFoodBasket.org/Go-Orange.
“We are living in unprecedent times where many in the community are wondering how to help our neighbors through tough situations,” said Tamara VanderArk-Potter, vice president of Philanthropy at Kids’ Food Basket. “We have a big fundraising goal of $140,000 this March, and we know we can get there, one donation at a time, one neighbor at a time, to create a more nourished future for West Michigan.”
KFB said that over 1.4 million people in Michigan are facing hunger, and 387,000 of them are children.
KFB served 1.8 million meals last year and is anticipating that the number will grow.
