The Best Food Cart Near Yankee Stadium Is Closing

One of the Bronx’s best food trucks is closing next month. Jamaican cart Fauzia’s Heavenly Delights will have its last day of service at 161 Street and Concourse Village West, on Friday, March 7 after a nearly 30-year run. Located near Yankee Stadium and the Bronx District Attorney’s office, it was a local favorite known for its Jamaican dishes with a decidedly New York spin.

“We have been forced to make one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make,” Fauzia’s announced in an Instagram announcement. Co-owner Fauzia Aminah-Rasheed tells Eater that she and the family decided to close for several reasons, including inflation in ingredient prices, staffing issues, and “finding someone to replace my 76-year-old father who still works for the business,” she writes, referring to Amin Rasheed.

Aminah-Rasheed’s mother, founder Fauzia Abdur-Rahman (who is from Kingston, Jamaica), started the cart in 1994 in the Bronx, situated near the courthouses, running the business with her husband. The spot became known for its Jamaican food with New York flairs. They made sure their truck was entirely halal, for Muslim families like their own who struggled to find options in the area.

There’s the famed jerk chicken, vegan barbecued tofu, curried chicken, jerk chicken gyro sandwiches, steamed cabbage, cakes, and more.

In 2023, Aminah-Rasheed took over the family business. Over the years, the food truck had three locations. In addition to the Bronx, there were outposts in Harlem and on Governors Island.

Fauzia’s isn’t going away forever though. Aminah-Rasheed sees the shutter as a “pivot,” as she writes. The family will still operate its seasonal cart on Governors Island during the weekends in late spring-into-fall. There will still be pop-up events in the future: The business is keeping its catering branch open. And, it’ll continue to sell its retail jerk seasoning jars.
