Hannaford donates $10,000 worth of food to Northern Light EMMC pantry

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Community Cupboard got a big donation.

It was all thanks to a helping Hannaford.

The Community Cupboard, a food pantry located inside the hospital, received $10,000 worth of gift cards from Hannaford to stock their shelves.

On Tuesday, the food was loaded off a truck and brought into the hospital.

They aimed to buy food that was healthy and catered to different dietary restrictions.

“We’re all about community, so we love to sell groceries, do a good job of it. Community is with our heart and soul. I live in the community, live it every day. We’re all about supporting our community ventures every way that we can and working with Northern Light here, this is really cool for us,” said Union Street Hannaford Store Manager, Eric Strout.

The Community Cupboard has served thousands since it opened last April.

Employees have access to the cupboard 24/7 to provide food for anyone in need.
