H-E-B food recalls issued in Texas: Full list of products impacted

Two products were recalled by the Texan grocery store H-E-B in February.

The products affected included cans of tuna and spinach artichoke dips, according to its website.

Newsweek has contacted H-E-B for comment on the recalls.

Tuna Cans

Tri-Union Seafoods, a California based manufacturer and distributor, issued a voluntary recall for select lots of its canned tuna products on February 10.

It said the recall had been issued “out of an abundance of caution” following a notification from its supplier that a manufacturing defect with a limited number of cans could have weakened their seals over time and led to leaks.

It added that this could have also caused contamination with clostridium botulinum—a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

Consumers were warned not to use the product, even if it did not appear or smell spoiled.

Tri-Union Seafoods said that no illnesses related to the recalled products had been reported, but urged any consumers feeling unwell to seek immediate medical attention.

The H-E-B product affected was “H-E-B Solid White Tuna in Water 5.0 oz 4 Pack.”

The cans have a best-by date of December 12, 2027, and can be identified by the can codes S9FA 45K and S9FA 46K, and the UPC code 4122043345.

Spinach Artichoke Dip

On February 8, a precautionary recall was issued for around 45 pounds of Spinach Artichoke Dip at Plano Central Market due to the possible presence of metal.

The items impacted included:

  • Spinach Artichoke Dip (sold hot) – PLU code: 200000509996
  • Spinach Artichoke Dip (sold cold) – PLU code: 296188901219
  • Spinach Artichoke Dip self-serve from bulk bar – PLU code: 958796

A notice on H-E-B’s website said: “This is an isolated incident, and the impacted product was produced and sold at this one store. This recall does not affect product from any other Central Market stores.”

It said that no reports of injures had been received.

Small pieces of metal could be a choking hazard, damage the digestive tract when swallowed or damage teeth when chewed.

Newsweek has previously compiled a list of recalls affecting H-E-B stores between October and December 2024.

These included recalls for whole fresh American cucumbers, waffles products, and ready-to-eat meat and poultry foods.
