Eat Halal Milwaukee is scheduled to host its second Suhoor Food Truck Fest on Saturday, March 15 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the ISM Community Center, 815 W. Layton Ave.
The family-friendly evening festival offers the community a place to gather for suhoor, the meal eaten at night during Ramadan before the sun comes up and fasting resumes. And, if the inaugural 2023 Suhoor Food Truck Fest – which attracted over 1K Muslims and non-Muslims from Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago – is any indication, the Fest is a powerful tool to encourage community during Ramadan, which takes place this year from March 10 through April 9.
The festival will feature a variety of food vendors with offerings that range from coffee and sweets to snacks and entrees. All vendors will serve certified halal food items (meats that have been slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines and no products containing pork or alcohol). Food trucks will also provide donations to support the new Salam High School which is currently under construction.
The evening will also feature games like cornhole, Jenga and ladder toss hosted by The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), religious lectures, henna tattoos and more. Both indoor and outdoor seating will be available and heat lamps and fire pits will provide warmth for customers outdoors.
Festival-goers with special needs and their families will also be eligible for fast passes and respite care rooms thanks to a collaboration between Eat Halal and the non-profit organization MUHSEN. Guests can fill out request forms online before the event to ensure they have their needs met.
Participating food vendors will include:
- Chik’N Dip (fried chicken)
- Fatty Patty (burgers)
- Hotbox Pizza (wood-fired pizza)
- Hue Asian Kitchen (pho)
- Kettle Cornucopia (flavored kettle corn)
- La Promesa (Puerto Rican fare)
