‘The Food That Built America’ Is Back—Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Season 6

If you’ve been waiting for the return of The History Channel’s comfort docuseries, The Food That Built America, we have good news: The show’s sixth season is set to premiere this weekend—with a few familiar Delish faces.

The long-running series, which is a part of the network’s “That Built” franchise, will premiere its latest installment on Sunday, February 23—nearly an entire year since season 5 kicked off. ICYMI, each episode falls down a new food rabbit hole and explores their regional roots, rivalries, and how they all came to be.

Our very own Food Editor Brooke Caison and Editorial Director Joanna Saltz appear in the new season, weighing in on the most buzzed-about food topics. Along with episodes throughout the season, you can catch them in the premiere, officially titled the “Tortilla Takeover,” which examines two of the biggest chip brands in the game: Doritos and Tostitos.

“Bold visionaries take big risks to bring Mexican food to all Americans by creating the best-selling condiment on the planet, two of the most famous snack chip brands of all time, and innovating the iconic pairing of chips and salsa,” the episode description reads.

“You can expect deep dives into some of America’s most iconic snacks, both salty and sweet,” Caison says, who appeared on eight episodes of the latest season. “You can also expect to be completely floored by the ingenuity and resilience of the people that founded these household name brands.”

The new episodes will also explore “Movies Theater Munchies,” “Baking Chocolate Chip History,” the “Empire of Convenience,” and “Legends of the Mall,” among other fascinating topics.

“I’m always so shocked and inspired by the foundation stories of these iconic brands. So many of these people were true pioneers, and they were forced to grow their companies in the face of so much adversity. I never get bored of those details,” Saltz says.

Season six of The Food That Built America will premiere on the History Channel on Sunday, February 23 at 9 pm EST. Plus, you can stream the series on the Roku Channel, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, the History Channel’s free app, and more.
