Arnold Schwarzenegger Is His Five Kids’ Number One Fan—Read All About Them

Arnold Schwarzenegger has quite a robust and varied résumé, with titles including actor, model, bodybuilder, former governor of California, and father of five. The Terminator star has been making headlines for decades, and now his children are making names for themselves, too. The Predator actor first entered parenthood in 1989, when he and his ex-wife Maria Shriver welcomed a baby girl named Katherine. They welcomed three more—Christina, Patrick, and Christopher—in 1991, 1993, and 1997, respectively.

Then, in 2011, Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering a fifth child, a son named Joseph Baena, whom he conceived with his family’s longtime housekeeper, Mildred Patricia Baena. Shortly after, Shriver filed for divorce, following 25 years of marriage. Their split wasn’t finalized until a decade later in December 2021.

“This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” read their 2011 joint statement to the Los Angeles Times. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together…We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives.”

Schwarzenegger opened up about the experience during a 2015 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, describing it as “a very tough situation for my kids, very tough situation for my family. It was tough for everybody. But it has happened and now we have to figure it out, right?” He also noted that his relationships with his kids are “fantastic, including my fifth child with Mildred.”

The five-time Mr. Universe is quite the family man, proudly stepping out with his children on red carpets and celebrating their major milestones on social media. He also became a grandfather in 2020 when his eldest daughter Katherine and her husband Chris Pratt welcomed their daughter Lyla Maria. The star couple went on to have a second daughter, Eloise Christina, in 2022 and a son, Ford Fitzgerald, in 2024. “It’s nice to see your kids having kids themselves and to watch this new dimension,” Schwarzenegger told People in May 2023. “You see them growing up and you see them going to school and getting smart and getting their degrees, getting their jobs and all this, but now seeing them be a parent? It’s fantastic. It’s really great.”

Arnold and Shriver officially became parents on December 13, 1989, when they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Katherine Eunice Schwarzenegger, in Los Angeles. Their baby girl’s middle name honors her maternal grandmother, Eunice Kennedy (John F. Kennedy’s younger sister).

Despite coming from a long line of politicians, Katherine has made clear that she has no interest in the field.  “Absolutely not, politics is not my thing,” she told People in 2016. “I think if you grow up in it, you either love it or you’re like, ‘No thank you!’”

Instead, Katherine has had several successful literary pursuits. She became a New York Times best-selling author in 2010 at 21 years old with her first book, Rock What You’ve Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who’s Been There and Back. Upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 2012, she published another self-help book titled, I Just Graduated…Now What? in hopes of helping other graduates navigate the “real world.” She released a children’s book about her rescue dog in 2017 called Maverick and Me (Katherine is a big animal rights advocate), and a fourth book, The Gift of Forgiveness, in 2020.

Katherine’s life got even more star-studded in 2018, when she started dating Chris Pratt after meeting him at church. When you know, you know, and these two sure did. They got engaged in January 2019 and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony that June. In 2020, they welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Lyla, followed by a second daughter, Eloise Christina, in 2022, and a son named Ford Fitzgerald in November 2024.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star has since made dozens of red carpet appearances alongside the Schwarzeneggers. He received the ultimate compliment, when Arnold called him a “fantastic guy” and “great son-in-law” during a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance in February 2022.

Katherine became a big sister on July 23, 1991, when Arnold and Shriver welcomed a second baby girl, Christina Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger, once again in Los Angeles.

Christina attended her mom’s alma mater, Georgetown University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 2013. She went on to study interior architecture at Parson’s School of Design and later worked as a health and wellness editor at Gwyneth Paltrow’s brand Goop for three years.

Christina also served as a founding member of the Special Olympics Founder’s Council.  “I love shining a light on those who feel outside the margins and bringing their experiences to light. The result is that we all feel validated and, ultimately, see that our differences are in fact, our superpowers,” she wrote on the official website.

She ventured into filmmaking with the 2018 Netflix documentary Take Your Pills, for which she and her mom served as co-executive producers. The film explores Christina’s struggle with Adderall addiction and societal pressures surrounding abusing controlled substances.

Shriver became a boy mom on September 18, 1993, when she and Arnold welcomed Patrick Arnold Shriver Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles. Following in his father’s footsteps, Patrick is making a name for himself in Hollywood as an actor and model. He made his acting debut with a cameo in the 2006 sports comedy The Benchwarmers, and beefed up his résumé with 2012 romcom Stuck in Love, 2013 comedy Grown Ups 2, 2021 Netflix movie Moxie, and 2022 HBO true crime series The Staircase. In 2025, he embodied the role of Saxon Ratliff in the Mike White-directed, cult-loved series The White Lotus. “This is what you dream of. To join something that has a large audience and that people love, that you get to contribute to…it’s an opportunity that’s so rare,” he told InStyle about the project. In addition to his industry pursuits, Patrick also earned a degree from the USC Marshall School of Business.

Patrick has quite a close relationship with his parents, and spoke about their influence while reflecting on his successes. “They both bring a unique set of values and perspectives and life experiences that have impacted me, and in a very unique way,” he said during the same interview, listing off their instilled traits: “the reminder to always find ways to give back and help others; the idea of working hard and having dreams and goals and finding ways to go after those.”

The multi-hyphenate will soon add husband to his list of titles. He proposed to his longtime girlfriend and fellow model Abby Champion in December 2023 after eight years of dating (they’ve been an item since September 2015).

Four years after Patrick’s arrival, the couple welcomed another boy, Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger, on September 27, 1997, in Los Angeles. His middle name honors his maternal grandfather, Sargent Shriver, an American diplomat, politician, and activist who founded the Peace Corps.

Christopher has managed to live a largely lowkey life, making rare public appearances and keeping a private social media account. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan in 2020, though his ceremony was online due to the covid pandemic. While it’s unknown what field Christopher intends to pursue, he made a high-profile appearance at the White House in March 2024. He joined his mom to greet former president Joe Biden as he signed an executive order on advancing women’s health research and innovation.

Joseph Baena, born on October 2, 1997, is the son of Arnold and his longtime housekeeper Mildred Patricia Baena. His mom kept his identity a secret until his resemblance to his father became apparent at around eight years old. Arnold spoke about his affair in his Netflix docuseries, Arnold. “It was wrong what I did, but I don’t want to make Joseph feel that he is not welcomed in this world—because he is very much welcomed in this world,” Arnold said. “I love him, and he has turned out to be an extraordinary young man.”

Joseph explained that he and his dad grew closer as he got older. “I also have to point out that with my relationship with my dad, it took a little while for me and him to get really close and just [feel] like I can joke around with him and talk about anything,” he said while appearing on Sistine and Sophia Stallone’s “Unwaxed” podcast.

Joseph graduated from Pepperdine University in 2019 and has gone on to pursue a career in real estate. Taking after his dad, he is also a bodybuilder and an actor, having appeared in the 2022 drama Bully High and 2024 action thriller Gunner. He was also partnered up with professional dancer Daniella Karagach on the 31st season of Dancing With the Stars. Following a dance in which he dressed as Hercules, he gushed about his dad. “I love my father. He’s the smartest, best man I can think of,” he said. “So, you know, to be compared to him, to be in the same character, Hercules—you know he played Hercules in New York. It’s amazing, you know? It’s awesome. And who doesn’t want to be like their father, right? So, it’s great.”
