ANN ARBOR, MI – A line of small children filed into Shanna Middleton’s classroom at Wines Elementary in between activities earlier this month. Trays of colorful cereal waited for them with other craft supplies at several round tables.
It was the 100th day of school in Ann Arbor. A day after buildings across the district closed due to the cold, the 5-year-olds were eager to loop pieces of cereal on a string and adorn other brightly colored items like paper crowns or Hawaiian leis.
