Wegmans donates $5K in support of LI Cares food bank
Wegmans Food Markets has made a $5,000 donation to Long Island Cares to support the food bank’s mission to feed Long Island’s food-insecure community, sponsor programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educate the public about the root causes and consequences of hunger.
Wegmans presented its donation to Long Island Cares President & CEO Paule Pachter and members of the Long Island Cares team, at its new Lake Grove store, scheduled to open Feb. 26.
LI Ducks executives to be inducted into Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame
The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame has selected Long Island Ducks President/Chief Business Officer Michael Pfaff and Field Manager Lew Ford for induction as part of the organization’s Class of 2025.
Pfaff has been with the Ducks since 2002, taking over the position of general manager in 2006. Under his leadership, the Ducks became the first team in Atlantic League history to eclipse the 9-million fan mark and have welcomed more sellout crowds than any team in the circuit.
Ford is entering his 15th season with the Ducks organization. During his franchise-best 13-year playing career with the Ducks (nine as a player/coach), he totaled a team record 1,036 hits while ranking second in franchise history for batting (.318, min. 1,000 at bats), games (877), RBIs (511), runs (549), doubles (227) and total bases (1,541).
Brentwood middle schoolers participate in mock legislative session

Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, who also serves as chair of the education and diversity committee, hosted more than 80 students from the four Brentwood Middle Schools for a hands-on introduction to the workings of the legislative process.
The students participated in a mock legislative session, taking seats at the “horseshoe” and acting in the roles of the presiding officer, legislators, and interested citizens to question, debate and take a roll call vote specific to school issues.
A former educator, Legis. Bontempi, and her colleague Legis. Samuel Gonzalez, also spoke to the students about their responsibilities and activities as legislators and the process through which local laws are enacted.
Outlet shopping center extends grant funding to local schools

Tanger Outlets Riverhead announced its 2024 TangerKids Grants recipients, which included Cayuga Elementary School, to create a sensory room; Hampton Bays Middle School, benefitting its Life Skills Academy; and Mattituck-Cutchogue Elementary School, benefitting their school decodable book library. The retailer will donate over $190K across the country to fund classroom investments through the TangerKids 2024 Grants program.
Throughout the program’s history spanning nearly 30 years, Tanger has contributed more than
$3.7 million to school-focused initiatives in the communities it serves. The annual program is eligible for public and private schools from pre-K to grade 12.
