LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Blue Ridge Area Food bank was open on Thursday, despite the snowfall.
In fact, so far this year they’ve only had to close once.
Where the problems exist when it comes to winter weather disruptions is whether or not the agencies that partner with the food bank can receive the food that they have ordered.
The Lynchburg Food Banks services about 50 organizations in Central Virginia and thanks to two straight weeks of winter weather some agencies haven’t been able to pick up their order.

“If that agency only distributes on a Wednesday, they may have to cancel the order, but the next Wednesday, if the snow event happens again – like it did this week – it even stacks that up and it’s delayed that,” said James Quade, with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
The food bank is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If you can get to the warehouse safely – they can also provide some assistance if your provider has had to close because of the weather.
