GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Beacon Corner Bar, a restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids specializing in seafood boils and coastal cuisine, has closed its doors for good, citing “rising food costs and other challenges.”
“With heavy hearts, we have made the difficult decision to close Beacon Corner Bar,” the restaurant, located on Fulton Street just east of Van Andel Arena, posted on its Facebook page. “Rising food costs and other challenges have made it impossible for us to continue, but we are so grateful for the incredible three years we had with all of you.”
The restaurant announced its closure on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Beacon Corner Bar was opened in early 2022 by Cindy and Dan Schneider, who own two other popular downtown restaurants, San Chez Bistro and Roam. Beacon Corner Bar is located next door to San Chez Bistro.
The restaurant’s menu focused on “costal cuisine,” which included seafood boils, fried shrimp, fish and chips, lobster rolls, whitefish sandwiches and more. Shortly after Beacon Corner Bar opened, Cindy Schneider told MLive the restaurant was inspired by the seafood restaurants experienced growing up in Sayville, New York, a clamming community on the south shore of Long Island,
“I had always known seafood to be an everyday event, very casual,” Schneider told MLive. “Then when I moved here to western Michigan, all of a sudden to have seafood was white linen and somewhat fancy.”
In its Facebook message, Beacon Corner Bar thanked its staff and patrons.
“To our amazing staff, loyal guests, and everyone who supported us- thank you,” the post said. “Your love for great food, good drinks, and community made Beacon something special. While this chapter is closing, we’re exploring new possibilities for the space, stay tuned for our next adventure!”
