Vacationing Upper Valley kids enjoy best ski bargain around

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Several school districts in the Upper Valley are off this week for winter break. And for parents looking for an affordable activity, Storrs Hill is the place to be all week.

The Poma lift is the only way to the top of Storrs Hill. It’s the perfect place to learn to ski and fall in love with the sport.

“I’ve been skiing here a ton since I was in first and second grade. I really like it here because it’s always nice and groomed and they take care of the hill really well,” said Maxton Fusca, a student at Windsor Elementary School.

This year, the price of a ticket is not a factor. Thanks to a grant from the Byrne Family Foundation, everyone skis for free.

“I mean, the ski price now, 2025 outrageous. I mean you go to Killington it’s $200 for a lift ticket, so being able to lap the park, get some great skiing in for free, it’s great practice,” said Lucas Collins a Hartford Middle School student seventh grader skiing with his buddies.

Storrs Hill is small enough that on a school vacation week, parents can drop off their kids with an emergency contact number and pick up them up at the end of the day.

“I think it is fun not having to pay, and you can come really whenever you want, on not school days or like weekends,” said Kalem Larkin, a fifth grader.

The ski area is run by the Lebanon Outing Club, which applied for the grant to introduce more people to the hill — and it’s working. Kyle Grant’s dad helps run it. “We’ve gotten a lot more people out here. Last year you would have about 20 people each day but recently we have had up to 280,” said the Lebanon High School student.

A big uptick thanks to no charge for getting to the top. “Yeah, you can’t beat the price since it’s free,” Fusca said.

The ski area next week will return to its Friday through Sunday schedule but the ticket price will remain the same.
