Food pantry in Oxford, Maine, closing due to lack of funds

One of two food pantries in the town of Oxford will be closing soon due to what officials call a lack of funds.The Oxford Helping Hands Food Pantry made the announcement on Facebook saying their last day of distribution will be March 6, 2025.The food pantry is open on the first Thursday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is located at 115 King St., utilizing space in the Polly’s Variety convenience store.In 2022, there were concerns the food pantry would close due to funding problems. In October of that year, the food pantry temporarily moved into the old town building at 85 Pleasant St. due to needed improvements at the town recreation building and was open two Thursdays each month. The pantry had already been forced to move from its previous location in 2021 due to the sale of the building.The Oxford Seventh Day Adventist church also operates a food pantry in town. They are open on the second Friday of every month from 10 a.m. until noon at their location on Fore Street in Oxford.There are also several other monthly food pantries in Oxford Hills and throughout the county.
