UNC Greensboro entering academic partnership with Epic Games, Unreal Engine

UNCG is one of three schools in North Carolina partnering with Epic Games.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Tuesday, UNC Greensboro and Epic Games — the creators of Fortnite — are set to announce a partnership between the university and the video game company.

The Unreal Engine Academic Partnership will allow students to receive access to educational events and training on Unreal Engine, a real-time 3D computer graphics tool made by Epic that is “used in creating video games, special effects for film and television, architectural and automotive design and other real-world applications.”

UNCG will also have access to free products and software upgrades for students and faculty and advanced information on internships and hiring events.

UNC Greensboro is one of three schools in North Carolina to become an Unreal Engine Academy Partner, joining UNC Charlotte and Wake Tech.

UNCG began its Esports program in 2021 and hosted its first collegiate tournament in 2022. The university also offers an undergraduate minor in videogaming and esports studies as well as a concentration within the Hospitality and Tourism Management major focused on esports management.
