The third of four Pokémon GO Spotlight Hours in February 2025 is scheduled to take place on February 18, 2025, from 6 to 7pm local time with Inkay as the star of the show. The event also features a double XP bonus for catching Pokémon, incentivizing this activity during its runtime.
What if you already have Inkay and its evolution, Malamar, though? Well, you should still catch as many of the squids as possible, even if you don’t need the XP or the Pokémon themselves. The reason for this is that catching as many Inkay as you can during the Spotlight Hour triggers the evolution conditions for other Pokémon, which are much trickier to satisfy under regular circumstances.

Evolving Pancham, for example, requires making it your buddy and then catching 32 Dark-type Pokémon while it accompanies you. Likewise, evolving Galarian Slowpoke to Galarian Slowking requires it becoming your buddy and then catching 30 Psychic-type Pokémon while it’s at your side.
Inkay, as it happens, is a Dark- and Psychic-type Pokémon and Spotlight Hour will greatly enhance its spawn rate, ensuring that you can catch them without interruption — a super easy way of getting some of those more difficult evolutions done and filling out your Pokédex.
To make things even more efficient, you should activate the Mega Evolution of Absol, Sableye, Houndoom, Tyranitar, Gyarados, Alakazam, Slowbro, Gardevoir, Medicham, Latias, Latios, or Gallade during Spotlight Hour. This will boost the drop rates of Candy XL for any Dark- or Psychic-type Pokémon you’re catching. Candy XL for Inkay is useful to anyone looking to build up a mighty Malamar that can stand on its own in Ultra League, one of the competitive GO Battle League formats.
