Local organization holds food drive to serve domestic violence survivors in their care

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An organization in the East is asking for the community’s help in serving survivors of domestic violence in their care.

The Center for Family Violence Prevention serves DV survivors in Pitt, Martin, and Washington counties.

The food drive will help feed the people in their care at their undisclosed safe house for DV survivors.

The drive started on Monday, February 10th and will go until Saturday, February 22nd and is accepting unexpired, nonperishable food items only.

PR and Marketing Manager, Alayna Boyer says the donations will help ensure that the people and families in crisis, within their care, have access to nutritious meals.

Currently, Boyer says the safe house is holding nine people with three children.

In addition, the center also serves many more outside of the safe house who are experiencing food insecurity.

As the ENC community gives to the center, Boyer says it’s a heartwarming thing to see in such a time of need for their clients.

“It means so much. We’re so appreciative. You know, our clients go through some really difficult times and each situation is different, so feeling the community’s support really just means the world to us, and really all of us who have been supporting us through Teen Violence Dating Awareness and Prevention Month and spreading the word, we really appreciate it and it means a lot to the Center and we hope to continue working with the community,” Boyer told WITN.

There are three drop-off locations where you can donate: the Center for Family Violence main office, My Sister’s Attic, and My Sister’s Closet.

In addition to the food drive, you can also give monetarily.
