Frybread, lumpia and étouffée among new food-truck bites at CAC

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed a few new food options rolling onto the Maricopa campus of Central Arizona College.

Five food trucks are now calling the college parking lot home, joining some longtime staples like Dr. Coffee and Birria Copa, as well as some relative newbies we’ve already written about, like Sunday’s Soul Food and Namkeen Dhaba.

Here’s a peek at what these trucks have to offer.

Johnnie B’s Soul Food Kitchen

In the mood for a filling, heart-warming meal? Inspired by his grandmother’s cooking, Johnnie B’s adds a second soul food truck to the CAC scene.

You’ll find some Southern staples here, including catfish dinners, shrimp and grits and a hearty étouffée. Entrée prices start at $9.

Mama Bear’s Mini Kitchen

This little food truck just might become your next favorite go-to breakfast spot. You’ll find some yummy eats like breakfast pizza, French toast and frittata bites.

The best part? Most of the menu items are priced under $10.

Native Nom Noms

Get your frybread fix by stopping at Native Nom Noms. You’ll find some classics, like Navajo tacos and mutton stew served with frybread.

Other menu options include breakfast burritos, sweet breads and hand-shaken lemonade.

Ohana Island Treats

Feel like indulging in spam musubi, kalua pork or lumpia this weekend? Swing by this food truck for a taste of the islands. You’ll also find sweet treats like shaved ice and peanut butter energy bars.

Taco Culture

We’re of the opinion that Maricopa can never have too many taco options, so here’s another to add to the growing list.

While street and quesa tacos clearly dominate the menu here, you’ll also find burritos, quesadillas and the occasional caldo or posole, along with several agua frescas.
