HENDERSON, Ken. (WFIE) – Inside, organizers have crafted a twisted love story, complete with creepy corridors adorned with decaying roses, eerie decorations that play on both romance and horror, and actors ready to deliver spine-tingling scares.
“It’s offseason and people aren’t used to that but we wanted to bring something different and special to the community,” said Joshua Wilhite, the owner of Henderson Haunts said.
Think less hearts and flowers, more broken vows and vengeful spirits.
“It’s going to be a lot of screams along the way,” Wilhite said.
But the chilling experience isn’t just about the scares; it’s about giving back.
“We’re collecting non-perishables here at the haunt and a portion of the proceeds are going to the Tri-State Food Bank. It was a great idea to pull this together with Tri-State Food Bank and just give back,” Wilhite said.
The haunted house has been a magnet for thrill-seekers all evening.
A steady stream of brave souls have been lining up to experience the unique blend of romance and terror.
“Every corner you go through they just scare you to bits,” said thrill seeker, Sean Owen.
“The ending really got me because he came out with a chainsaw out of no where,” said another attendee, Erica Farmer.
“Definitely a lot of jump scares like you said thinking you know where everything is at but you really don’t,” said Caleb, an attendee.
“We love everything scary and horror and we came here last year for the normal haunted house and I saw they were doing it again on Facebook for valentine’s day and I was like heck yea were going to out and support,” said long time attendee, Tori.
