To the extent that Americans agree on anything, it is only on how much we, as a nation, suck. We’re obsessed with football and celebrities, stuffed with processed food and chemicals, short-sighted, violent, depressed, undereducated, addicted to everything one can be addicted to, guided by Democrats who hate capitalism and Republicans who love chaos, stuck in sub-3% economic growth, and always at the edge of total collapse.
And yet the American stock market, the American economy, shrugged off Covid like no other. It remains the envy of the world and the US the best place to invest. How could this possibly be? Is it solely due to magnificent tech companies? Are American companies so global that their domicile doesn’t matter? Is it all a bubble?
