The First ‘Elden Ring Nightreign’ Test Did Not Go Great

While it seems likely that Elden Ring Nightreign will probably end up being pretty good by launch, the early network test for the game which just went live is…suffering from some network problems.

The network test has a number of sessions over this weekend that span three hours each so the multiplayer servers can be filled in a condensed period with not all that many people playing. The first test was early this morning, and it ran from 3 AM PT to 6 AM PT, but it suffered some significant problems.

About halfway through the test, servers on PlayStation had to be taken down for maintenance in order to restore functionality. But problems endured to the point where FromSoft issued the following statement after the sessions just ended:

“The first session of the #ELDENRING #NIGHTREIGN Network Test has ended. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the game server issues. Work is currently ongoing to improve the stability of the Network Test. An additional Network Test session is being considered.”

Of course, this is the point of a network test, to test out the servers for this multiplayer game in order to make sure they do not have issues at actual launch, and we know that Nightreign now has a release date of May 30, 2025, two and a half months from now.

It remains to be seen whether or not these server issues persist, and another network test is happening later tonight, so FromSoft has the day to work on things. Here are the rest of the times for the network test, but I do not believe that you can still get in if you haven’t already:

  • Session 2 – Feb.14 from 7:00PM PT to 10:00PM PT
  • Session 3 – Feb.15 from 11:00AM PT to 2:00PM PT
  • Session 4 – Feb.15 from 3:00AM PT to 6:00AM PT
  • Session 5 – Feb.16 from 7:00PM to 10:00PM PT

So, these run through Sunday, and hopefully we will see more and more stability as time goes on. While past FromSoft games have had multiplayer in the form of co-op and PvP, this is a new experiment for them, and with a roguelike model, server issues causing players to lose a session are going to be more frustrating than they would be otherwise. Again, this is an early test and it’s good these issues are being found early. We’ll see if they announced another testing window, and how things go tonight.
