Phoenix mom who pleaded guilty to killing her 3 kids no longer faces death penalty

A Phoenix mother who admitted to killing her three children in 2020 was set to be sentenced Friday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Police arrested Rachel Henry, 27, in January 2020, claiming that she smothered her three children: 3-year-old Zane Ezri Henry, 23-month-old Mireya Henry and 6-month-old Catalaya Kyeana Rios.

Henry pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in December, which removed the possibility of the death penalty in the case.

Detectives said that she confessed to singing songs to the children as she killed them before arranging their bodies in the living room to appear as though they were sleeping, according to court records.

Henry’s sentencing hearing was scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. in Maricopa County Superior Court.
