Louisville kids get dream baseball experience thanks to Kosair for Kids

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two young baseball fans from Louisville are about to embark on the trip of a lifetime thanks to Kosair for Kids.

Rory McGrath, 10, and Eli Taylor, 14, will head to Texas this weekend to throw out the first pitch before the University of Louisville takes the field in the Shriners College Showdown at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers.

For both McGrath and Taylor, baseball is more than just a game. It’s a passion.

She has lots of physical challenges but she never lets that stop her,” said Megan McGrath, Rory’s mom.

Born with spina bifida and a double leg amputee, McGrath has never let her condition limit her love for the sport. Taylor, who has Down syndrome, is equally enthusiastic.

“He’s more like a typical 14-year-old boy than not,” said Sandy Taylor, Eli’s mom.

The two young athletes recently honed their hitting and pitching skills at U of L’s indoor facility at Jim Patterson Stadium in preparation for their big moment in Texas. When asked what he was most excited about, Taylor enthusiastically replied, “Just everything.”

Beyond the honor of throwing out the first pitch, Rory and Eli will get an all-access experience with their families, including time spent with UofL’s baseball team and enjoying the stadium’s amenities. McGrath has been practicing her pitch for weeks, determined to make the most of this incredible opportunity.

“We’ve been practicing for a few weeks throwing, because she wants to make sure she does her best at the baseball game,” McGrath said. “It’s just another challenge she wants to overcome, and she’s been working hard to do it.”

As Babe Ruth once said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” And Rory and Eli are proving that sentiment true, showing the world their love for the game and their unwavering determination.
