Food baby! 84 deliciously adorable baby names that are good enough to eat

Olive, Honey and Brie with a swig of Chardonnay.

Not only a yummy appetizer, but inspiration for baby names that are influenced by food and drink.

“Aside from botanical names like Juniper (berries) or Olive, food and drink names aren’t a trend,” Laura Wattenberg, creator of Namerology, tells TODAY.com. “If you see a fruit name like ‘Peaches’ or ‘Cherry,’ that’s more about cuteness than edibility. There is a growing trend toward ultra-cute names for girls only.”

Wattenberg adds, “Even in this era of creative naming, American parents are still wary of names associated with food,” pointing to the name that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin gave their firstborn. “It speaks volumes that people are still talking about the celebrity baby name ‘Apple’ two decades after Apple Martin’s birth.”

You’ll find one “stylish” group of names among the herbs and spices.

Wattenberg cites “the traditional Rosemary to the contemporary Sage and energetic Pepper, as well as less familiar choices like Cassia, Saffron and Bay.”

More baby name inspiration!

Some parents like the idea of baby names rooted from alcoholic beverages.

“Sherry and Brandy, for instance, became hits after they were featured in popular songs,” says Wattenberg, referencing the 1962 song “Sherry” by the Four Seasons and “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” by the band Looking Glass from 1972.

Pink and Carey Hart’s son is Jameson; the son of Rooster McConaughey (Matthew McConaughey’s brother) is Miller Lyte; and Cardi B’s sister is Hennessy.

Parents looking for a food- or drink-inspired name should consider its long-lasting impact.

‘Food and drink-inspired baby names, like all dictionary-word names, are going to be immediately identified with the subject itself, so you have to be careful,” Jennifer Moss, the founder and CEO BabyNames.com, tells TODAY.com.

Moss adds, “I don’t recommend naming child after any type of alcohol, like ‘Chablis’ or ‘Merlot’ or associated brand names like Budweiser. Again, it all comes down to the object they’ll be identified with and if there’s a public association of any kind — do you really want to burden your child with that out of the gate?”
