Finding Solutions: Local group provides blankets to kids in need

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A group of volunteers are working together to put a smile on the faces of others through blankets.

Project Linus is a nonprofit that provides handmade blankets to children in need across the CSRA.

They’re finding solutions in how they can make more after Hurricane Helene.

That’s where you can step in.

Golden Harvest Food Bank's Spread the Love campaign

The organization is made up of volunteers who get together monthly to make quilts and blankets.

On Thursday, they hosted a quilting day.

Everything made from the group goes to other area nonprofits, hospitals, Toys for Tots, The Ronald McDonald House, the American Red Cross and the list goes on.

They say since Hurricane Helene, Requests for blankets have increased.

Just last month, they gave out more than 1,000 blankets.

“It’s just a great wonderful feeling to know that you put your love and your hugs and all your efforts into it and someone is going to get it who will appreciate it. We have stories of children who have kept these blankets forever,” said Sue Turner, a volunteer.

They encourage anyone who can tie a knot, knit, crochet or sew to come out to their blanket day on Saturday.

It’s taking place at the Gerald Jones Learning Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They rely on donations.
