STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Firefighters responded to a blaze at a fast food restaurant in Bulls Head Thursday night.
The “all-hands” fire was reported at around 6:40 p.m. at a McDonald’s located at 1660 Richmond Ave., between Victory Boulevard and Morani Street, an FDNY spokesperson said.
According to emergency transmissions, the fire was contained to the roof of the one-story building.
Twelve units and 60 firefighters brought the fire under control just after 7 p.m., according to the FDNY.
A restaurant employee told the Advance/SILive.com that “everyone got out safely,” while another employee was overhead saying she had dialed 911 after smelling smoke inside the establishment.
While no injuries were reported, traffic was a headache for evening commuters as it was backed up heavily at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Victory Boulevard.
One customer who arrived at the restaurant after placing an online order wondered out loud whether he’d still be able to pick up his meal.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the FDNY spokesman said.
