NORMAL — Holy Cross School’s pursuit of a boys’ basketball state title fell just short on Thursday night.
The Crusaders — who had won 12 straight games entering Thursday’s IESA Class 7-3A state title game — were upended by Lincoln-Broadwell in a 57-33 decision at Normal Kingsley Junior High School.
Colton Stonecipher and Charlie Young combined for 47 points in Holy Cross’ wins over Ford Heights Cottage Grove UGC and Pontiac St. Mary’s that advanced the Crusaders to the program’s first state title game. Eli Marino chipped in 19 points in those contests.
Holy Cross’ most recent appearance in an IESA boys’ basketball state series occurred in 2010, when the school’s eighth grade team advanced to the Class 2A finals. Its cross-country team placed fourth in the 2024 8-4A state finals.
