NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Tom Fitzmorris, a beloved New Orleans food critic, author, and broadcaster whose career spanned more than five decades, died Tuesday at the age of 74 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, according to a post on his website.
Fitzmorris was widely regarded as the city’s most trusted voice in food journalism. He chronicled New Orleans’ ever-evolving restaurant scene through newspaper and magazine columns, radio and television appearances, and books celebrating the region’s culinary traditions.
A lifelong New Orleanian, Fitzmorris began his career in the 1970s and became a household name through his radio show, where he passionately discussed local cuisine with listeners.
His deep knowledge of the city’s restaurants and chefs made him a go-to source for locals and visitors looking for the best dining experiences.
He is survived by his wife, two children, and grandchildren.
