Mountaineers Set for Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – The App State women’s track & field team will round out the indoor regular season with a trip to Lynchburg, Va. for Liberty’s Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. Action on the track will start at 1:40 p.m. and field events will start at 2 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, field events will start bright and early at 8:30 a.m. with track events to start at 9:45 a.m. 
 
The meet will be available to stream on ESPN+ from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Last Time Out
App State’s time at Virginia Tech’s Doc Hale Invitational was highlighted by a new distance medley relay (DMR) school record. The DMR team of senior Lauren Johnston, sophomore Jayla Adams, junior Addison Ollendick-Smith, and senior Jasmine Donohue stopped the clock at 11:25.30 to place second in the race and rank 22nd in the NCAA. The previous App State record of 11:37.28 was set in 1999 by MJ Harrelson, Abby Stack, Angela Pryor, and Abby Reeder. 
 
In addition to the new DMR record, the Mountaineers tallied 14 top-10 finishes in Blacksburg, Va. On the track, senior Regan Hodge and freshman Ella Battel clocked personal bests of 2:58.78 and 3:01.36 to finish third and fourth, respectively in the women’s 1,000 meters. The 4×400-meter relay team of sophomore Nicole Wells, freshman Zaniya Littlejohn, junior Corlasia Scott, and freshman Ja’Naya Linder finished fifth with a time of 3:51.73. Senior Karsyn Kane led the Mountaineers in the women’s 3,000 meters, clocking a personal best of 10:10.17 to place sixth. Sophomore Kendall Johnson advanced to the women’s 60-meter finals after clocking a personal best of 7.52 to finish fifth in the prelims. She placed eighth in the final with a time of 7.57. 
 
Ranked Mountaineers
Freshman Lilly Nichols continues to lead the Sun Belt and rank eighth in the Southeast Region. She also ranks 33rd in the NCAA in the women’s pole vault. Junior Ava Studney and graduate student Noelle Meeker round out the SBC’s top-five in the women’s pole vault. Studney also ranks 21st in the Southeast Region. App State’s women’s distance medley relay team of Johnston, Adams, Ollendick-Smith, and Donohue leads the Sun Belt, and ranks ninth in the Southeast Region and 22nd in the NCAA. Senior Emma Russum leads the league and ranks 22nd in the region in the 5,000 meters. App State’s 4×400-meter relay team of Wells, Ollendick-Smith, junior Daye Talley, and Adams stands second in the Sun Belt and 15th in the Southeast Region. Donohue and Johnston stand third and fourth, respectively, in both the mile and 3,000 meters. Additionally, Donohue rounds out the region’s top-25 in the 3,000 meters.

The Mountaineers will head to Birmingham, Ala. for the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25. The meet will be available to stream on ESPN+.
