MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mid-South Food Bank suspended some of its routes due to a lack of funding.
The Mid-South Food Bank said that it had “no other choice” but to suspend some mobile pantry routes that were added in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As many of the Mid-South Food Bank’s partners closed during the pandemic, those mobile routes were added with the support of the Tennessee Department of Emergency Management. “…We had all the resources to significantly increase the program outreach across our 31-County service area,” the Mid-South Food Bank said.
Those funds ran out in 2025, according to the food bank. Despite continued fundraising, the Mid-South Food Bank said it can’t afford to continue the routes outside of its core distribution model.
“We recognize how this decision may impact our neighbors who relied on this service; however, we want to assure you that we will continue to provide essential support through our Core Partner Programs, such as our brick-and-mortar pantries, soup kitchens, and pantry-supported deliveries, which remain committed to serving those in need,” the Mid-South Food Bank said.
