PlayStation has thrown together another sizable State of Play for later today, promising a 40+ minute show “for news and updates on great games coming to PS5. The show celebrates a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world,” says Son.
Today, Wednesday, February 12, the start time for the State of Play will be 2 PM PT, 5 PM ET and 11 PM CET, so plan your afternoon/evening accordingly. I unluckily booked an early Valentine’s dinner at 5 PM, and I am not going to dare to ask my wife to get out of it now. Probably not. We’ll see. You can watch the show:

As for what’s coming, there have been a lot of rumors that include things like potential announcements of Xbox games that are coming to PlayStation, as has been a pattern these days. I am most interested in the report that Bungie’s Gummy Bears, its Smash Bros-infused MOBA, will be officially announced as coming to PlayStation, PC and Switch 2. But wait, didn’t Bungie say all its games would be on all platforms even after its sale to Bungie? Well, that’s where things get tricky, since Sony recently carved out a bunch of people from Bungie to start a new studio under Sony directly, so that’s doesn’t apply! It still would to Marathon, however. As far as we know.
It remains to be seen what the split will be here between PlayStation console exclusives, PlayStation PC multiplayer releases and third party games. Do not expect a GTA 6 spot. As has been well-established by now, Rockstar has no interest in attaching themselves to anyone else’s showcase as a single trailer release is a massive video game event in and of itself for them. We should be getting more from GTA 6 soon, however, especially if this promised fall 2025 release date is still happening.
PlayStation finds itself in a unique, tricky spot at the moment, having “won” the console war against Microsoft, and now vacuuming up formerly exclusive games there (or current first party releases like DOOM: The Dark Ages). But their storied single player games are getting so expensive they can be hard to justify, hence increasingly rapid PC ports. Their multiplayer live services offerings have been mixed, with one true hit, Helldivers 2, and one all-time terrible miss, Concord. I would expect more looks at what’s left today, even if that’s just Gummy Bears. Stay tuned for tonight.
