Food bank program makes sure kids don’t go hungry

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – For two weeks, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is hosting its annual “Pack the Bag” fundraiser. It benefits the organization’s Food for Kids program.

The program helps children who are at risk of missing meals regularly in the food bank’s 18-county area. It’s a partnership with 296 public schools.

“Specifically we have had teachers come back to us to say they have watched the childrens’ academics improved after seeing them in this program,” said Matthew Blondell, Engagement and Communications Manager at Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. “They can focus now, they can worry about learning instead of worrying about things outside of that.”

The food bank said $100 can sponsor a child for an entire year. You can donate on Second Harvest’s website.
