City of Memphis says TACOnganas employees were taken from food truck by federal agents

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – TACOnganas says their employees claim they have been detained by ICE.

A video released on social media shows the employees were taken from the business by a group of men who did not identify themselves as immigration authorities.

The City of Memphis confirmed Monday night that the employees were detained by federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), but did not immediately specify whether or not ICE was involved.

HSI and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are together a part of the Department of Homeland Security’s largest investigative arm.

HSI agents investigate numerous crimes, including human trafficking.

In 2022, the U.S. Department of Labor opened an investigation into TACOnganas’ owner after allegations of labor law violations.

The men in the video TACOnganas posted Monday did not show any badges or IDs, nor did they have uniforms on that would identify them as ICE.

“We’ve contacted legal aid organizations to help the employees, and we’re gathering any information we have to share with their families. Our company complies with federal and local immigration laws, and we know everyone is dealing with situations like this. We know our community is scared. As the country navigates a new normal, we’re here to support the community and to support our workforce and people, too,” the post reads.
