West Virginia Lawmakers Push to Ban Synthetic Food Dyes in Schools and Stores

Two Republican lawmakers in West Virginia are spearheading efforts to eliminate synthetic food dyes from school meals and grocery store products across the state, citing health and behavioral concerns among children.

Proposed legislation would target artificial color additives, including Red No. 3, which has been linked to negative effects in humans. These dyes are commonly found in snack foods, processed baked goods, fruit drinks, and breakfast cereals.
