Trap & Skeet Finished Fourth In First Spring Competiton

Savannah, GA – The Washington College Trap and Skeet Team (WCTS) competed in the ACUI/SCTP Lower East Coast Conference Championships February 8-9, 2025 to open their spring tournament season. There were approximately 300 athletes representing 28 colleges and universities in attendance. Teams, ranging in size from 45 athletes down to 3, competed in up to 6 events for honors and either a High Overall (HOA) ranking scored out of 2,250 targets or a Classic All Around (CAA) scored out of 1,500 targets.
 
WCTS athletes competed in the CAA 300 target event; sub-events consisted of 100 American Skeet, 100 Singles Trap, and 100 Sporting Clays targets. Each athlete was scored individually in sub-event and CAA. Team scores were made up of the top 5 scores in each sub-event and then complied into the team CAA score.
 
Saturday morning began with fog and American Skeet at 9am. The Shorewomen were led by Hartley Meyer in the ladies category who finished 16 out of 72 breaking 95/100 and setting a new personal record. Shoremen Hunter Clark  and Marcus Rosenstiel both shot 98/100 and finished 17th and 20th out of 239 respectively in the men’s catagory. (ACUI/SCTP rank tied scores outside of podium finishes using reverse long run). Trice Moore and Colin Krug rounded out the WCTS top 5 with 93/100 and 90/100.
 
Saturday afternoon WCTS began the Sporting Clays portion of the competition which proved to be a challenging and technical course for all competitors. Clark posted the high score for WCTS with a 77/100 finishing 57th of 232 men. The remaining 4 scores all came from the men’s category from Rosenstiel (75/100) for 79th, Christopher Johnson (71/100) for 105th, Moore (71/100) 107th, and Max McNulty (69/100) 118th.
 
Sunday morning rounded out the CAA events with American Singles Trap. Krug was high gun for WCTS setting a second personal best for the weekend with a 97/100 finishing 7th out of 235 men. Rosenstiel followed closely behind Krug smashing 95/100 for a 28th place finish. Shorewoman Gracie Heintzelman posted a 93/100 finishing 10th out of 74 ladies. Moore broke 90/100 while Clark had 89/100.
 
Athletes are scored out of the 300 targets and ranked for individual CAA awards. There were 107 in the men’s CAA category. Final placements for the Shoremen were, Rosenstiel 8th (268), Clark 12th (264), Moore 24th (254), Krug 35th (245), Johnson 44th (240), and McNulty 53rd (232). There were 30 in the lady’s CAA Category. Shorewomen final placements were Meyer 18th (223), Katie Opielski ’25 21st (213), and Heintzelman 22nd (210).
 
WCTS finished with 1301/1500 landing them a 4th place finish out of 11 college who shot the CAA program. Georgia Southern took 1st with 1373, Auburn finished 2nd with 1316, and U Tennessee – Knoxville was 3rd breaking 1305.
