Whole Foods Market hosts grand opening in Falls Church

It was a big morning for the Little City, with the grand opening of Whole Foods Market.

Over 100 shoppers flocked to 103 E. Broad Street this morning (Friday) to see the new 45,000-square-foot grocery store. The celebration featured free tote bags, coupons, treats and coffee for early birds, who crowded outside the shop just before 8 a.m.

“It was very chaotic getting in the garage, and then I didn’t see the line outside,” said customer Kerry Englehart. “It’s must nicer than the other one that closed down, down the road. It’s nice to have [a Whole Foods] so close.”

The new store replaces a previous Whole Foods at the Idylwood Plaza, which closed permanently Monday, Feb. 3.

It has several specialty counters

• The butcher, fishmonger and cheese shop counters offer fresh meats, seafood, cheese, charcuterie and artisan deli products.
• The grocer also offers a wide-ranging collection of 550 wines and 180 craft beers, located near the cheese counter.
• Other amenities include an Amazon counter for order returns and pickups, custom floral arrangements and do-it-yourself nut butter grinding.

There are four eateries inside

• Pizza, sandwiches and sushi are all available from kiosks inside the grocery store. There’s also a large selection of pre-made hot foods and salad bar offerings.
• The bakery offers homemade breads, custom cakes, mix-and-match cookies and gluten-free sweet treats.
• WFM Coffee Bar, a full-service cafe, serves espresso drinks, teas and treats next to the store’s bakery from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

There are 700 products from D.C.-area suppliers

The grocery store is open from 8 a.m.-9 p.m., seven days a week.
