
A New Jersey food company is recalling one of its products across 18 states, including Massachusetts, due to salmonella concerns.
Turkana Food Inc. issued a recall on 858 cases of Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste sold in 1-pound plastic jars after routine sampling revealed some finished products contained salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

In mild cases, salmonella infections can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
However, salmonella infections can sometimes be fatal to young children and frail or elderly people, according to the FDA.
No illnesses related to the recalled products were reported as of Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The product, labeled Aleppo Sesame Paste Tahini, has a gold lid and is marked with lot number 120824-01 and an expiration date of August 2026.
Customers who bought the product in the affected lot are advised not to eat it and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
