CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is preparing for its annual School Food Drive, and this year, they’re covering more ground than ever.
You can now add the Shenandoah Valley to the list of participating schools.
The Food Bank has been hosting the School Food Drive since 2011 as a way for students to get involved in their community. The 2025 student leaders are Albemarle High School’s Lily Stendig and Tandem Friends School’s Sofia Smith.
“It’s been so successful that we thought this year, why not just ask a few more people,” said Livia Marrs, a volunteer manager with the Food Bank. “It’s a really great drive, it gets people really involved, it gets students really involved with community service. It also brings in a lot of food to the food bank during a time when we don’t have a lot of food donations after the holidays.”
The effort takes place from March 3 to March 21 and will also include a fundraising competition.
The application deadline is February 21.
