USD 501 honors a classroom that raised over 700 items in food drive

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Living the Dream teamed up with Topeka Public Schools for their eighth annual food drive.

One classroom at Whitson Elementary School raised over 700 items alone.

Mrs. Lyndelle’s fourth grade class helped lead Whitson to the top of this year’s food drive for the third straight year.

Students from the class were recognized at Thursday’s school boarding meeting, and board members got to see their generosity up close.

From the students to the faculty, everyone at Whitson Elementary says they’re proud to give back to the community.

“The fact that one classroom brought in over 700 hundred items is just amazing,” Whitson Elementary assistant principal Hannah Taylor said. “So it just really shows how we try and support each other and we think of each other as a family. We want to do that with our community as well.“

They joked that they hope their success can inspire the Chiefs to reach their own three-peat this weekend.
