New ‘no food waste’ app launching in Tennessee to help residents save money

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A new app is launching in Tennessee with the mission of helping residents save food and money.

The “Too Good To Go” app, which will be new to the Volunteer State, has been active in other U.S. cities intending to battle food waste, and save money as well as the planet.

“Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food, is about to launch in Nashville and Memphis, connecting local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores with residents eager to rescue great food at a discount,” the app said on Thursday.

The app allows businesses to list their surplus foods in “Surprise Bags” at a lower-than-retail cost, allowing users to purchase them through the app. Too Good To Go said that this is an easy way to fight food waste, help businesses recoup revenue, and give families a budget-friendly way to enjoy local eats.

Too Good To Go lists the following steps on how to use the app:

  1. Discover Surprise Bags available at nearby stores and restaurants
  2. Confirm your choice, reserve it, and pay through the app
  3. Go to the shop at the specified pickup time, swipe the ap,p and take your food home
  4. “You’ve rescued good food from going to waste and done something good for the planet!”

The app claims that its “no food waste” mission has saved more than 350 million meals, and boasts more than 100 million users.

“Too Good To Go was founded in 2016 in Copenhagen to fight food waste. In 8 years, the company has grown to over 100 million registered users and 170,000 active business partners across 19 countries in Europe and North America. Too Good To Go has helped to save over 350 million meals from being wasted, the equivalent of 873,500 tons of CO2e avoided,” the app said.
