Local school food programs to continue in summer

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Students in schools across Michigan will have access to nutritious food over the summer months.

The Michigan Department of Education says both the Meet Up and Eat Up and the USDA’s Sun Meals to Go programs will continue. Both programs provide food to those who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

The Meet Up and Eat Up program is for students up to 18 years old living in low-income areas where 50% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Sun Meals program is designed to help students living in rural areas.
