Kansas City nonprofit hosts ‘Souper Bowl’ food drive

The Community Services League in Independence, Missouri, is using the Super Bowl buzz to do some good for those in need in the community. The Community Services League is hosting its “Souper Bowl” food drive to bring in donations for people in need. The organization chose soup as the star of the drive because it’s quick and easy, but foods other than soup are accepted. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at its center at 404 N. Noland Road or at any of the bins around Independence. “It creates a little bit of empathy and understanding, and again, very small thing, but just a can of soup, it’s warm food; it can be a nutritious meal,” said Doug Cowan, president and CEO of the Community Services League. The organization provides help three to five days a week depending on a person’s needs.
