Chef’s Market Food Hall & Butcher shop is a one-stop eatery with entertainment for the whole family

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —

If you’ve been to Newport News City Center at Oyster Point over the past few months, you may have noticed a new business in the former Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill location on Thimble Shoals Boulevard. 

The site is now home to Chef’s Market Food Hall & Butcher shop, which truly has something for everyone. 

“I put this whole concept together of a butcher shop, food stalls, entertainment, brewery, distillery,” executive chef Kenny Sloane told 13News Now. You may know his restaurants around Hampton Roads, including Fin Seafood, Steak & Tonic, Amaro and Fin & Tonic. 

“All my other places are fine dining restaurants,” Sloane explained. “So I took a step back and did a food truck, street food kind of place.” 

Chef’s Market truly caters to all tastes. There’s a butcher shop on site, as well as a restaurant, brewery, distillery, bakery and coffee bar. 

Sloane said he wanted it to be a one-stop shop. “Go grab a sandwich and then you can go grab an ice cream afterwards, go grab a beer. Just hop around on one tab and we’ll keep track of you,” he said.  

Chef’s Market also has entertainment options for the whole family, including duckpin bowling, cornhole, darts and much more.  

When we visited, Sloane and his team prepared us their Philly cheesesteak, nachos, and macaroni and cheese with lamb, one of the many options from the mac and cheese bar. 

Sloane broke down the mac and cheese bar menu, explaining, “[We’ve] got truffle, cheddar, smoked gouda, brisket, buffalo, chicken, shrimp, crab, lobster. All the good stuff.” 

No matter if you’re looking for a donut, beer, rack of ribs, or all three, Chef’s Market is a place for the community to meet up.  

“It was kind of a vision of mine to bring the community together and have a spot for people to come and enjoy,” Sloane told us. 

Chef’s Market also has Industry Mondays, where hospitality industry employees get free bowling and food specials. There’s also live music every Friday. 

Chef’s Market Food Hall & Butcher Shop is located at 11800 Merchants Walk in Newport News. 

It opens every day at 11 a.m.
